The Long and Short of the Siege of Derry/Londonderry

Tim McGarry in coversation with Dr David Hume

Three centuries ago, the north west corner of Ireland became embroiled in the War of the Grand Alliance, a global conflict between Louis XIV of France and a Europe-wide coalition of England, the Dutch Republic and the Holy Roman Empire. Through its Siege of 1689, the valiant little Plantation city of Londonderry played a significant part in the shaping of modern Europe.

Tim McGarry, a six foot four comedian, joins vertically challenged Orangeman and historian, Dr David Hume, to look at the 1689 Siege from different perspectives.

The Siege Museum unpacks the history of the Siege of Londonderry and of the Associated Clubs of the Apprentice Boys of Derry. The Heritage Lottery Fund and the Council are supporting the Siege Museum to deliver an outreach programme, this autumn, to deepen understanding of the 1689 Siege and its legacy.

This event is organised in association with the Friends of the Derry Walls.
